Welcome to our ‘complex’ world of property rights. The Asia-Pacific Centre for Complex Real Property Rights is a transdisciplinary collaboration like no other. The APCCRPR acts as a nexus to draw together thinkers, activists, researchers, practitioners, and consultants, with the shared goal of tackling contemporary land and property challenges.

As a Centre for Enterprise, Research and Community Service (a CERCS in UTS parlance) means that some of our activities are funded by competitive grants, others through contract research, some supported by industry and the professions, and those in the community service category because they are just so important, interesting or often both.

There are no ‘typical’ days in the Centre. One moment a team of researchers may be meeting with a government organisation to look at the contemporary urban commons. This could be followed by a stakeholder meeting tackle the property rights of sex industry. And then on to workshopping carbon geosequestration and the associated property right complexity with a doctoral student before looking at a leasehold or urban planning challenge. This may flow onto a session where we start to look at property rights and land tax under a hypothetical republic model. Another day may see a team of land policy researchers working for aid-donors looking at the highly customary land issues in Pacific island communities, or advising on Native Title matters in Australia. Many of these projects have a major sustainability component as well as power / relationship interests.

If you find our projects interesting, or would like to collaborate with us or suggest a new challenge for the Centre to tackle, I would love to hear from you. Likewise, we have some great research opportunities for potential Doctoral or Masters students who would like to push the boundaries.
