Kees Dorst
Dr Kees Dorst is Professor of Design at the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building of the University of Technology Sydney (Australia) and senior researcher at the department of Industrial Design of Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands). He is on the board of the ground- breaking foundation 'Young Designers and Industry' (YDI), which develops completely new applications of design thinking in society. He is also a co-founder and organizer of the Amsterdam Creativity Exchange (ACX), a foundation set up to build the creative city of Amsterdam.
He is editor of the main Dutch design journal ITEMS.
In addition to these activities, he lectures at the Design Academy Eindhoven and at various other design schools and management institutes in The Netherlands and abroad, and works as a consultant in the fields of product design and product development. He is the author of four books and many papers on design, design education and design research. His main textbook for use by designers and design students is 'Understanding Design', released in 2003.
Angela Brew
Angela Brew PhD is Associate Professor in the Institute for Teaching and Learning at the University of Sydney. She is internationally renowned as a researcher and speaker and has worked in the UK and in Australia in the area of higher education for over thirty years. Her research on the nature of research and human knowing and its relationship to teaching has been published widely. Her books include: The Nature of Research: Inquiry in Academic Contexts and, most recently, Research and Teaching: beyond the divide published by Palgrave Macmillan in June 2006. From 1999-2003 she was President of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA). She is co-editor of the International Journal for Academic Development.
AbstractBrad Haseman
As Director of Research Brad has been a strong advocate for practice-led research within the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT. He has worked as a teacher and researcher for over thirty years pursuing his fascination with the aesthetics and forms of contemporary performance and pedagogy. Most recently he has co-edited Innovation in Australian Arts, Media and Design (2004, Post Press) and served as guest editor for a themed issue around Practice-led Research for Media International Australia (February 2006). In 2004 he received a Distinguished Teaching Award for Postgraduate Supervision at QUT and co-convened last year's national conference Applying Practice-led research in the Creative Industries.
