Going on exchange
Global Exchange allows you to study for one or two semesters at a UTS partner university overseas. While you are studying overseas, you remain enrolled full-time at UTS and receive credit towards your UTS degree.
Undergraduate Students
If you are an undergraduate student, you should have passed 48 credit points of your current UTS degree by the time you go on exchange. Part-time students wishing to undertake exchange can only do so during a semester in which they are enrolled at UTS for full-time study.
Design
Undergraduate Students are advised that exchange can only occur in the second year of a three-year degree or the third year of a four-year degree. It is strongly recommended that exchange should occur in the second semester of an academic year. Whilst exchange is usually for 1 semester, the maximum period of exchange is 2 semesters. If a student wishes to be considered for two semesters of exchange, this must all occur during one Australian academic year and is subject to approval by the relevant Course Director.
Requests for exchange will not be considered during an honours year.
Architecture
Undergraduate Students are advised that exchange can only occur during the first or second semester of the second year or the first semester of the third year.
Built Environment
Undergraduate Students are advised that exchange can only occur from the second year of their degree onwards, but cannot take place in the final year of their degree. Exchange may take place in either semester.
Postgraduate Coursework Students
If you are a postgraduate coursework student, you should have completed and passed 24 credit points of your current UTS degree by the time you go on exchange. Part-time students wishing to undertake exchange can only do so during a semester in which they are enrolled at UTS in a full-time study load.
Design
Full-time students are advised that they can only undertake one semester of exchange, which must occur in the 2nd semester of the three semester course of study. The choice of subjects to be undertaken on exchange must be relevant to a student’s course of study. All applications require the approval of the Head of School.
Architecture
Master of Architecture students are advised that exchange can only be undertaken during the second and/or third semester of the 2 year course. Due to professional accreditation, the choice of subjects to be undertaken on exchange must be approved in advance by the Course Director.
Please be aware that the following Professional Practice subjects must be taken at UTS and will not be approved for subject substitution: 11501 Architectural Practice: Media and Marketing, 11502 Architectural Practice: Finance and Project Management, 11503 Architectural Practice: The Profession, and 11504 Architectural Practice: The City.
Built Environment
Masters by Coursework students are advised that exchange can only occur from the second semester of their degree onwards. Please be aware that you cannot complete the final full-time semester of your course at an overseas institution.

Study Abroad
If you want to go to a university that does not have an exchange agreement with UTS, you can try the Study Abroad program. Study Abroad may also be an option for you if you will be overseas for one or two semesters and you wish to enrol only in a part-time study load (ie less than 18 credit points in a semester). You choose the country, the university and the subjects, and if it's approved by UTS, then you can count it towards your course. For more information on Study Abroad contact the Student Administration in the Building 6 Student Centre on + 61 2 9514 8978 or Ask UTS, or talk to your course director.
