The exhibition will present the prototype of a new type of cooling vest designed for hot intensive working conditions e.g. fire fighters with heavy protective clothing . A team of scientists from James Cook University developed the invention that was then designed for operation and ease of manufacture by Roderick Walden and Stefan Lie. It will focus on the role of the Industrial Designers.

The exhibition will feature some of the key design problems addressed. The project represents collaboration between two Universities, to achieve a commercially viable product outcome, based on an invention grounded in scientific research. It demonstrates ways for the School of Design to apply its expertise for mutually beneficial research outcomes by offering specific skills to take an invention from mock-up through to a viable, manufacturable product and prototypes for trialling. The project has been managed by UniQuest and supported by Access UTS.

GRW CoolMe Vest opens at the DAB LAB research Gallery May 5 - 28. The DAB LAB Research Gallery is located in the Level 4 Courtyard, UTS, 702-730 Harris Street, Ultimo.
