What is Credit recognition (CR)?
If you have previous study from a recognised tertiary organisation or relevant work experience, you may be eligible to have this prior learning considered for credit towards a UTS course.
DAB will assess applications for CR only after you have accepted an offer into a particular course.
DAB also grants block credit under pre-determined arrangements for previous study in some completed TAFE courses and other tertiary providers including Insearch.
See the DAB link for Credit recognition to find out more about these block credit packages available for undergraduate degrees.
The Application for Credit recognition has the details on how to apply for Subject Exemptions, General Advanced Standing and Automatic Credit.

Can industry experience be counted towards my postgraduate course?
Students may apply for Credit recognition (CR) based on relevant work experiences where the prior learning is related to assessable components of the course. Students may be required to demonstrate their learning through the completion of some type of assessment or activity such as compiling a portfolio.

I have studied at TAFE, will I be eligible for Exemptions?
There are several specific TAFE courses which if completed will attract various standard exemption packages (Credit recognition) for successful applicants to the undergraduate degrees listed on that page.

I have studied somewhere else, will I be eligible for exemptions?
You may apply for Credit recognition in the form of specific Subject Exemptions or for Unspecified Elective Credit towards your UTS course on the basis of previous relevant study from a recognised tertiary organisation.

How much credit will I get for my previous study at another university?
Once you have been offered a place in an DAB course you should apply for Credit recognition (CR).
The amount of CR granted to you will depend on how closely your previous course is aligned to your new UTS course and usually only up to a maximum of one-third of the credit points required to complete your new UTS course

How do I apply for CR?
You can apply for CR by downloading the "Application for Credit recognition".
Follow all instructions included on the form.
Submit your completed application with a certified copy of the applicable Academic Transcript and the relevant subject descriptions, to the Faculty Student Centre.
